Decorating with Art

I've been considering doing a little DIY artwork, for my home.  I've always loved art and the way it makes me feel.  And I think the last piece of actual art I had, was a small copy print of a Monet painting, I bought at Micheal's, about 10 years ago.  And when I had my own place, framed photos were about the only thing in my apartment, besides a few shelves and cliche candle set-ups from Target.  (Sorry, not to bad-mouth them).

But yes...oh, sooo boring.

In the last year, I've tested out different forms of wall decor.
Trying lots of different things, to find what best describes, Me.  I finally get, that I should really love, what I decorate with, and not just with what I think I should or what the trends are.

So I've been pinning like crazy, all of the amazing pieces I love and that I could use as inspiration for making my own.  As you can see...I'm a bit obsessed right now, with watercolors and abstract.

This piece, is by far, my favorite.

I'm super excited to start something...although, I hope it doesn't come out looking too silly.  Do you have any suggestions?

Christmas at Home

Sometimes "Less", really is more.  At least that is what I am finding out with my Christmas decor.  Using the simplest of things and toning down, my "busy" decor feels great.  My wreath hanging on my door got a quick make-over when I removed all the extra pine cones and ornaments.  And used some leftover burlap to make a simple bow.  Nothing fancy.  But I adore her.

A simple advent calendar I created earlier this month, here.

And my absolute favorite, is the simple "Merry + Bright" print, I made on my computer.

Branches pulled from a tree outside are gathered in a vase with a few bulbs hanging.
I love how mod and clean this vignette is.

Basically, I'm finding the simpler, the better.  (And definitely, cheaper!)  For me anyway.  Plus, the added bonus...more money for Christmas gifts.  Well...at least I'm telling myself that.

Happy Christmas!

Winter-land Advent

I saw this idea here, via Pinterest, a few months ago.  There are a ton of ways to display it, but I needed it to be quick and cheap.  I strung some cute winter-y cardboard tags onto some twine and numbered each one.  Because this calendar is uber cheap, I wrote directly on the back of each one.  There is a different activity for each day in December, mainly things I try to do with the kids anyway and some new fav's that I hope will become tradition.

I'm excited for today's activity.  We're going to the town's annual Christmas parade.  It's feeling a bit more like Christmas, with the cooler weather, which means we can snuggle on the curb in downtown with some goodies and hot cocoa.

Last year was the first one we attended and we didn't even make it to the end.  The kids got to see Santa, but after 2 hours, I had to call it quits.

What advent are you using this year??
