Octogon Mirror

I'd been fawning over this octogon mirror from RH for a while now.  It's simple and classic without a lot of fluff.  But I just couldn't convince myself or even consider asking the hubs about this purchase, the price was way of my price range.

Target also had a few options for a while, but they were pretty small, coming in at less than 20" in diameter.  I wanted mine to be pretty substantial so it wouldn't look like a ship's porthole.

Target

So you can imagine how excited I was while perusing my local HomeGoods yesterday and spied this baby in the mirror section.  Hello lover!  And for a only $70, it was a steal compared to the RH mirror. I was a little bummed that it was painted white and distressed, it's a little country cottage for my style but that can always be changed later.

I used the mirror in the living room near the door, switching out the Cozamia print I originally had up. Once I started moving things around I realized I didn't mind the white distressed paint.  It actually contrasts nicely with the dark console.  I tried a few different looks, switching out pictures and plants.  The only one I couldn't decide on was the lamp shade.  What do we think...

Black???

Or white?

In the end, I went with the white shade.  I'm really happy with the size of the mirror, it's bigger than the one I kept thinking of getting at Target, but definitely wouldn't have made me happy in the end.  It's a testament to waiting it out sometimes.

I'm back to school this week and surprisingly I'm happy about that, I kinda missed it.  Ask me in another six weeks, I may have a different answer for you.  Happy hump day peeps.

Valentine Edition

Happy love day, lovers!  I love this day, whether I had a valentine or not in the past.  Any day to enjoy some pink and red, eat chocolate candy or paint my nails red in delight, is alright with me.  My favorite combo right now is a little blush and metallic. Funny how when I just typed that, in my head I said it in my best southern accent, "my colors are blush and bashful, momma."  I probably wouldn't want everything dripping in Pepto-Bismol fashion, but a small dose would do me just fine.  I hope you're celebrating today, it's always a good day to celebrate with those you love.

Happy Valentine's day!!

Inspired Rooms: You've Got Mail

My hubby likes to joke about letting me watch the movie, You've Got Mail, only when he needs to fall asleep quickly.  He's such a sweetheart sometimes, don't you think?  But this movie is one of my all time faves!  He dozes off, and I get to relax with Meg and Tom.  I am such a fan of set design and how it applies to a story line and the characters, one of my other favorites is Cougar Town.  Plus, I'm a huge Friends fan, so it's just as well.

Joe Fox, played by Tom Hanks, lives in a beautiful apartment with his girlfriend Patricia.  We don't see a lot of his apartment, but what has always pulled me in was his kitchen.  (Sorry for the half photos, but this was the best screen shot I could get without the image being totally blurry).  His kitchen is small, but the design is phenomenal.  The transitional design is beautifully done and would have you stumped as to when this movie was made. The hubs and I had a little bet about when it came out--I said 98' and he guessed, 2000.

The movie was released back in 1998--yep, I totally know my stuff.  But it's kinda crazy, 16 years ago, can you believe it??  But with the black wall, white glass cabinets, and silver hardware, the kitchen looks like something designed today. This room does not beckon the typical 90's wood oak cabinets at all.  It's timeless and will withstand the fades that will always come and go.

Another shot, sorry for the blurred image, Patricia was just running around like a mad woman.  But don't you  just love how they utilized the space?  I love the window, and the shades with the neutral window coverings.  The small cabinet filled with books is a great little addition too.

I adore the large grandfather clock and bench in the hallway.  Although I think the bench was a bit much for Mr. Fox, but I'm under the assumption his home was decorated by a designer as opposed to Katherine's shabby chic brownstone.

And a few photos of her home, just because it's a must.

Her bathroom is one of my all time favorites.
The vanity and the moldings throughout are just as classy as she.

All images taken by me.

Have a lovely weekend, friends!

Steamer Trunks

Lately, I've been rethinking my coffee table situation.  Not that it's a bad one, but I get a little squirm-ish from time to time and have been loving the idea of a trunk in the living room.  I love the character it brings into a space and the extra storage as well.

This wooden trunk is perfect among all the light furniture, it really grounds the space.

Jenny Wolf Interiors

Definitely a favorite, is the lucite trunk.  Although, I can only imagine the constant dusting and cleaning I'd have to do with this one.

And probably one of the best is the brass trunk.  It's just enough glam without even trying.

I'm sure we won't be switching out our coffee table anytime soon, but it's always good to have a back-up plan.  Are you a fan?

Happy hump day, friends!

Weekend Reading

Style Files

Finally the weekend is upon us! I've been waiting for the morning I can slow down and stay in my pj's until who-knows-when.  The last six weeks have been overtaken with my latest design class, and even though you'd think that one class shouldn't be a lot of work, when you consider that I'm a full time mommy of two, and that my husband is in law enforcement, he's not at home very much.  This leaves me to deal with the everyday by myself, while trying to fit in time for study and assignments.  It is definitely worth it and manageable, but demanding non the less. Which leads me to believe that in another two weeks, I go back to school--full time. Eek! I still think it's crazy, but I'm excited for the challenge.  Time management will need to be my b.f.f. for the next two years, but I'm convinced it's going to be awesome.  At least that's what I keep telling myself.

For now though, I'm going to soak up this lovely little break of mine and get some much needed R&R before heading back to the books. And maybe get a few projects done around the house...we'll see, right?  These images via my Pinterest board aren't far off from the winter we're having here in SoCal, sunny and in the 60's, so I'm not sure if much of anything will get done with this kind of weather.  Happy Weekend, loves!
